In 2014 she was diagnosed with breast cancer, had to have a double mastectomy, and was not a candidate for reconstructive surgery because of other health reasons. She was devastated and her sense of femininity felt under siege. Through walking, she was able to overcome her anxieties and embrace her new self - proudly sharing her scars for all to see.
